Speciation of the Equimolar Zinc Gluconate Glycinate System
Speciation of the equimolar Zinc Gluconate Glycinate System
Zn2+ ions are available in different amounts at each pH. The fraction of zinc available as Zn2+ or positively charged zinc gluconate and zinc glycine species at physiologic pH 7.4 have relevance in treating common colds. The zinc gluconate/glycine equimolar speciation calculation was provided by Guy Berthon, PhD, Director of Research, INSERM Unit 305, Toulousse, France, on July 16, 1996. Zinc fractions are calculated at 17 millimolar for zinc, gluconate, and glycine. The hydroxide species are considered to be supersaturated.
